What is a Minecraft resource pack?

A resource pack is a set of files that changes how Minecraft looks and sounds, replacing the default textures, GUI, fonts and sounds. It does not change gameplay, so it is safe to use on almost every server.

Are resource packs the same as texture packs?

Yes. Texture packs were officially renamed resource packs in Minecraft 1.6 because they can now change more than just textures. Most players still use both names for the same thing.

How do I install a resource pack?

Download the .zip from PacksMC, open Minecraft and go to Options then Resource Packs, click Open Pack Folder, drop the .zip into the folder, then select the pack in-game. No mods required.

Are these resource packs free?

Every resource pack on PacksMC is free to download. You can preview each one in your browser before downloading so you know exactly what you are getting.
